Do you give presents for Thanksgiving?

I live in Britain so I don't know the concept, but my friend said just now that America has double presents due to Thanksgiving and Xmas shortly after, but I always thought Thanksgiving was more of a celebratory meal, who's right?

No.  We have Thanksgiving in Canada as well, albeit in October, and it is basically a Harvest festival, and not an occasion for giving gifts.

In the USA, it is on a Thursday a month before Christmas, and they go nuts with shopping on the Friday after it, which they call Black Friday.  Even Canada is having Black Friday sales now, even though we do not have a Black Friday.

You shop for presents for Christmas on thanksgiving day. We have this thing called Black Friday where stores give heavy discounts on their products to entice you to spend money. Since there’s already a discount might as well buy presents for Christmas
