Can I be paid minimum wage if my contract stated otherwise?

I have recently taken on a new job in a restaurant. In the interview the manager stated that the pay was minimum wage, which for my age range is £7.70 per hour, but when I received my employment contract, this was stated differently. I believe a mistake has been made as the amount quoted is for the age range above mine of £8.21ph. I have attached a photo to show how this was stated, but after receiving my first pay check, I have been paid £7.70ph. Am I able to query this as I did sign this specific contract.

Many Thanks

You were told £7-70 and you are being paid £7-70.  Looks like someone simply printed off the wrong contract. You can certainly challenge your pay rate based on what the contract says but I suggest you let it lie of you want to continue in the job.

Of course you can, as it was stated in writing that you should be getting more.

A signed contract is legal and they are legally obligated to pay as per contract.... however just be aware you are a 'new' employee if under a month no notice is required and up to one year, one weeks notice unless different to what your contract states, so it is easy for them to get rid of you

The minimum wage will be increasing next year - perhaps your contract reflects this.

Mistakes happen, if you insist on this wage you will be out of the door next week.

If you and your employer have bith signed the contract, you are bound by all terms and conditions, including pay rate.

Just query it to get it made right, otherwise later on you may have to pay back any money that you have been overpaid.
