Why can't I put ketchup on a Chicago hot dog?

It seems most of the answers come down to "ketchup has sugar". But a Chicago dog with the works has sweet relish, which has just as much sugar per serving as ketchup. What's up with that? Why is the sugar from relish okay, but not the sugar from ketchup?

I have to wonder why people are worrying so much about the sugar in ketchup. Y'all out there drinking the whole bottle at one sitting? Put what you want on your dog and live a happy life. The minute you were born you were going to die, so do what you want.

If you don't like the way a traditional Chicago hot dog is made, feel free to hold the relish and put whatever you want on it.

Go with the ketchup. It's just that most people like mustard and relish. To each his own.
