Of course, anything, and I do mean ANYTHING can get screwed up by anybody.Over cooked, under cooked.Cooking fish needs as much care as cooking anything else.Find a recipe that appeals to you,and follow it closely, you should do fine.

The biggest problem with cooking fish, in my opinion, is over cooking the fish. Cooks, not familiar with cooking fish, very frequently cook it to death. Even then, however, it is OK to eat, it's just pretty tough and dry.

most people over cook fish because they are worried about eating undercooked fish.
Yeah you can mess it up in many ways. Yo can burn it, under cook it, over season it, over cook it, etc.

To my knowledge, I cook often and love to cook but I don't eat or cook fish often, it depends on how you cook them. The best way to cook fish in my opinion is to steam them which is to put a bit of butter on a piece of aluminum foil with other contents like onions, vegitables, and potatoes, put the fish on top, another bit of butter on it and maybe a squeeze of lemon or lime or both, wrap it up in the foil, and throw it on a fire or in the oven for 20 minutes to a half hour. Comes out great.
Of course it's possible to burn fish if you fry it or bread it and deep fry it in oil if you do it that way too long as with anything else.
IMO I can't bring myself to eat raw fish due to being brought up having it pounded into my head never to eat meat that is not cooked. I just can't do it, and I refuse to.

You could overcook it. Use a meat thermometer and cook medium (125F).

It is easier to cook than meat. It can be grilled, deep or shallow fried, oven cooked, cooked in a sauce in oven or microwave. The worst thing you can probably do is to overcook it. I would not recommend raw fish unless you use an authentic sushi recipe. Also if you want to do in the microwave, do it in a sauce, otherwise it has a tendency to splutter. You can use a tomato-based sauce or mild curry.

first off, there are some fish that can be eaten raw if prepared the right the way. you can't just buy any old fish from the grocery store and eat it raw. fish is pretty to cook though. just break it apart to check if it's cooked through in the middle and you're good.
