Question about the PS4 download?
So I just got a PS4 and noticed when I insert a game, I always have to wait a few minutes to maybe an hour for the game to download, has this always been the case with the ps1, ps2, and ps3? This is my first playstation and I had an xbox 360, wii and original xbox and for all of them when I insert a new game, I can play it right away. Is there a reason the ps4 has to download the game as opposed to being able to play it right away?
Thanks.

The PS1 and PS2 all read games from the disc, so there's no installing of any game data.
With the PS3/4 and Xbox 360/One, all games are stored are saved on the internal hard drive and the disc is only used to verify that you actually own the game. The reason for this is because games are quite large (especially with this generation of consoles) so in order to save on wear and tear on the optical drive, the game installs itself to the hard drive.
There's that and the fact that games also have large updates and patches that have to be downloaded. It took about 1hr or so to install RDR2 on PS4 when I got it last year, and that was just the game itself. It took another 20-30 minutes for the updates to download.
