What is the recovery like after being a liver donor?
A close friend's nephew is in need of a liver donation, and I've been toying with the idea of getting tested to see if I would be a match. I have a seven-month-old daughter, though, and I'm concerned with how well I would be able to take care of her during the recovery period; between my husband and our families, I would have lots of help, but I want to know about how long it would be before I could be up and moving around and playing with her and all that good stuff.

Like all major surgery, you’ll be in a lot of pain for about a week. That can be controlled with medication. For the next 2 months, you shouldn’t lift anything heavy including your daughter. Basically take it easy for about the next 2 months with some light walking just to keep in shape.
There should be a group of specialists to discuss what the procedure will include, recovery time, and any concerns that you might have.
