Nihilists and atheists believe the same things, nihilists are just more honest about what they believe

Atheism is, just, not believing in God

Nihilism is thinking that life is, basically, meaningless.

They are not the same at all ...

Atheists still think that life has 'meaning', but without believing in God.

An atheist as the label suggests, is "not" a theist and that is it. More specifically, atheists are either unaware of the claim that theists make (infant) or doesn't believe the claim once heard. A Nilhist is a person who believes that life is meaningless and rejects all religious and moral principles, according to the definition. I don't believe life is meaningless and I don't reject "all" religious and moral principles, some are actually valid and good. I simply find religions to be purely man made, with some pearls of wisdom and some garbage that should be ignored.

Usually I'd answer in terms of definitions, but since most have already provided them I'll offer this:

atheists can believe in spirits and reincarnation. They don't need a god to believe that. Reincarnation automatically separates itself from nihilism by definition. So while atheists can be nihilist, it's not a necessary conclusion someone like Redeemed by the Blood of the Lamb insists upon (he'll block any cordial reply offering a difference of opinion).

It's just not true that atheism=nihilism when one considers atheists believe in all kinds of spiritual and other things of meaning other than a god.

As an atheist I don't believe in god critters.

I may well 'believe' in many other things but not gods.

Google... "Nihilism is the belief that all values are baseless and that nothing can be known or communicated. It is often associated with extreme pessimism and a radical skepticism that condemns existence. A true nihilist would believe in nothing, have no loyalties, and no purpose other than, perhaps, an impulse to destroy."

I saw this great answer a few weeks ago...

Here is the answer atheism provides

"We see no compelling evidence that there are any gods".

If this answer does not satisfy the question

Then the question is unrelated to atheism.

atheism only simply deals with a lack of belief in any g0d

    whereas

nihilism is the rejection of all religious and moral principles, in the belief that life is meaningless.atheists do not deny moral principles in fact I would argue we are more moral than Christians and do not reject religion simply we do not believe your gods exist

Atheism is unbelief in any gods.

Nihilism is the denial of the reality of existence, an extreme form of skepticism.

    They're not related.
