When did DEC stop selling servers under that name?

Earlier this week, I saw a server rack with the "digital" logo in an office. (Digital Equipment Corporation, or DEC)

Compaq bought DEC in 1998, and it's now HP. I'm wondering just how old that server rack actually is. It's hard to believe that it's still running DEC servers, of course. (Or is it?)

Those DEC racks could be from the 1970's up to the 1990's.

What is valuable is any removable panel that shows the DEC logo ("Digital Equipment" logo is worth more). There are collectors that would love to have a DEC rack, but just any front panels that show any DEC logos can be worth something to sell on Ebay.

That said, those racks are standard size (19"), and can be used for other, modern, rack mounted equipment.

DEC was a good brand during its days so it's not really surprising those servers still hum.

    when they got purchased...

its possible that the server has had regular maintenance to keep it up and running.
