Yes, I wouldn't be surprised if there were enough. But if not: even John Roberts can call witnesses.

To what end?  For what purpose?  Whether we the people like it or not, there is a near-zero chance of 67 senators voting for conviction.

There was a better chance of convicting OJ Simpson.

Voting for witnesses would not be defecting.  It would be doing their duty as US Senators.

That would still make it 50/50 and Pence would break the tie.
