    absolutely! That is all that is needed for 51 votes to want witnesses and/or, documents.

    To what end?  For what purpose?  Whether we the people like it or not, there is a near-zero chance of 67 senators voting for conviction.

    Voting for witnesses would not be defecting.  It would be doing their duty as US Senators.

    That would still make it 50/50 and Pence would break the tie.
