Yes, but sometimes talking to a friend or relative who cares can make you feel better and also bring you closer to that person.

If in a public/business setting where the pessimists have to socialize, then yes. People do pick up on the vibes and the mood can change quickly amongst the crowd. Not so good if first impressions count. One must thwart the negatives with a change of subjects to distract from the catalyst at hand. But in more casual settings, sometimes two negatives make a positive and if you corner two gloomy Gusses together, give them a couple of Coronas and a doobie, they might keep happily to themselves, out of the way comparing notes and everyone else will be back to normal again. XD
