To add to the below. Both are essential to the normal operation of the body. So there is a difference between say vitamin C which is a vitamin and say caffeine which isn't.

A hormone is a chemical produced by a gland in the body. A vitamin is a chemical which the body ingests either through the digestive system by eating food or by taking a pill or can also be ingested through the skin such as vitamin D from sunshine.

Hormones are chemical compounds produced by glands in a body. Vitamins are chemical compounds that can't be produced by the body but are necessary for body function and so must be obtained from food.

That isn't to say that hormones can't be obtained from food, but obtaining hormones from food is controversial because they are hormones that were produced by the glands of the body of whatever produced that food, so non-human hormones whose effects on the human body can be dangerous, and because they are in addition to the hormones that the person naturally produces from their own glands, which can upset the natural hormonal equilibrium of that persons body with often deleterious effects.
