Are electrical heating pads safe? Is there any risk other than possible burns/ malfunction?

They should be attended to and monitored. There have been incidents where they’ve been left on and caused burns, and of course like any electrical device, they should be kept away from water sources to avoid shock.

Reputable brands in good condition are safe. Don't risk cheap internet deals. Examine the pad from time to time. If there's any damage to any of the cables, throw it away.
