Should a fillet steak have gristle on it?

I bought a fillet steak today in a restaurant and I think I was ripped off. My steak looked too big to me to be a fillet steak, plus, when I started to eat it I found a big piece of gristle on the side of it. Any fillet steak I have had in the past did not have any gristle or fat on it and was usually smaller. Have I been ripped off?

Somebody probably took a sirloin steak that was in the kitchen and cut it to the shape of a filet and served it on your plate. you can't mistake filet mignon if it's real filet mignon and you've tasted filet mignon before it has a distinct taste and it's tender and pretty much melts in your mouth if you get a steak it's like a piece of gristle and the piece of leather it's not no filet mignon

A real cow doesn't come with lines drawn between the various cuts, so it your fillet was on the border soto speak of the next cut, it's possible it could have a small amount of gristle. You should have sent it back if you were unhappy with it.
