Dryer issues?

My dryer heats only sometimes. The location is in an odd spot but that’s the only place to put it. It is on unlevel ground. Could this be the cause?

It might be lint build up. We not only need to clean the lint trap every use we also have to clean the vent tube that is supposed to be routed outside and the port screen for the hole in the building the pipe vents out of. Lint buildup can also gather around the tub of the dryer and if it's not cleaned out every once in a while it can cause the tub to seize.

There's a metal grate at the back of the dryer. Pull it off and reach in there (of course when the dryer isn't running and it's a safety thing to unplug it) and pull anything that's in there out. Pull the vent line off and clean out whatever's in there inside the dryer as far up as you can reach. Take the vent hose outside and use pressured air or a garden hose to clean it out as best you can. Then do the same for the vent port on the building.

If that's not what's causing it dryers do have a heating element. It might be on it's way to kaput. You can replace the heater if you want and that might be cheaper than buying a new dryer if you're savvy enough to do that sort of thing. You have to know the exact model number of the machine to find replacement parts for it.

I doubt that's the cause. There are a few things that control temperature; thermostat, heater coils, timer and moisture sensor.

I doubt the uneven dryer is the cause.

But you should put a board under one side to level the machine.

Usually what happens is the sensor that detects excessive heat will blow a relatively cheap inline fuse. This can occur if you overload the dryer and the airflow is insufficient between the incoming and outgoing air. The fuse might be around $15 and you can do it yourself if you can read the wiring diagram that should be located behind the dryer in a plastic bag. A simple volt/ohms meter (mutimeter) will help you check the fuse. Infinite resistance means zero current flow through the fuse.
