Does God grant us the ability to repent, or is it of our own doing? ?

If it’s God who grants repentance, then what does he take into account before granting it to us?

According to 2 Peter 2:9B Jehovah is patient with us because he doesn’t desire anyone to be destroyed but desires all to attain to repentance.

It is by His grace that we can repent, and by His grace that we are forgiven.

The ability to repent is a divine grace. But, the choice remains ours. God freely provides grace to all.

The apostle Peter said: “Repent, therefore, and turn around so as to get your sins blotted out.” (Acts 3:19) What does it mean to repent? It means to feel very sorry for any wrong that we have done. For example, if you lived a sexually immoral life, then you would need to repent. And even if all your life you have tried your best to do what is right, you still need to repent, because we all sin and need to ask God for his forgiveness.—Romans 3:23; 5:12

Is it enough just to feel sorry for what you have done? No. Peter said that you also need to “turn around.” This means that you need to reject any former wrong conduct and start doing what is right. To illustrate this, imagine that you are traveling to a certain place for the first time. After a while, you discover that you are going in the wrong direction. What would you do? No doubt you would slow down, stop, turn around, and then go in the right direction. Similarly, as you study the Bible, you might discover that there are some habits or things in your life that you need to change. Be willing to “turn around”—that is, to make the necessary changes—and begin to do what is right.

    Our own doing.

God wants everyone to repent (Ac 17:30), but not all do what he wants.

The ability to repent is the result of God's gift of free will to us, and all mankind. It's a simple matter of choice.

That you humbly ask in the name of Jesus promising to honor Him in everything we do

God puts on your heart to listen to His word and on hearing it to repent. Whether you choose to listen and repent is up to you.

Good question.  Repentance is not a worldly or carnal concept, is it.

This world in which we live is in spiritual darkness.  We were part of it.

So repentance is granted by God.  In fact, doesn't it require godly sorrow?

Someone having godly sorrow certainly believes in God, don't they.

I think, and I think it might be covered in Acts, Timothy that God grants repentance to a large group but not all of that group avail themselves of it.

Donald Trump certainly thinks he's a Christian and would never consider repentance.  I think it's possible for him, but he's not interested.

He's always having prayer groups coming, refers to the Lord, so I think it's available but not acted upon.

Wouldn't you think the person would have to be humble, aware of their state?

There is no such thing as repenting. Prior acts cannot be erased by a phony Sky Daddy. Sorry.
