should i unplug my HDDs when installing windows on a ssd?
Hi, So im going to be reinstalling windows 10 onto a 2TB ssd then formatting my current hdd for additional storage, But i have a 2nd 4TB hdd i use for storage, movies games ect.
I have seen more then a few posts online saying you should unplug your HDDs when installing a os on a ssd is there any truth to this and is there any chance i could lose all my data on my 4TB HDD?

it's safer if you do unplug it, just so you (or windows) Does not Accidentally erased the drive. Definitely unplug any drive containing a Windows installation because if windows sees a drive with windows on it while you are installing the new version of windows on your new SSD it will put the boot info on the old drive and then when u format the old drive when u are in the new windows u wont be able to boot into ur new windows... so ye just unplug all drives and install then u can plug them all back up

Unplugging the extra hard drives is a safeguard. That way, you 100% know for sure that you and Windows can't do anything to the drive during installation, even accidentally, since it's not even connected.
It's not essential, but it doesn't hurt to be safe.
