Pull the injector fuse.  Disconnect the fuel supply line to the fuel filter (have a bucket ready).  Start car and check for fuel flow at supply line.

Fuel flow is good, reinstall fuel injector fuse, replace fuel filter and try to start again.  No luck, check fuel pressure sensor data while cranking with a scope or scanner.  Fuel pressure is bad, replace fuel control valve (suction control valve) at tandem pump.

Fuel flow is not good,  check power and ground at fuel tank pump with a test light while cranking.  Power and ground is good, the fuel tank pump is bad.

I expect the pump in the tank is shot. The high pressure pump has to have a constant supply from the low pressure pump situated in the fuel tank. It could just be a poor connection to this pump if you are lucky. But they do fail and sometimes it's intermittent. An AA man started my tank pump by kicking it! It got me home and I got a new one fitted straight away.
