Recommend any good online dog training courses?
Does anyone know of good online dog/puppy training courses? I planned on getting a professional trainer but with everything shutting down, I have not had much luck. Is there anything that you personally would recommend? I am wanting to at least teach the basics- sit, stay, come, drop it. To get along with my cat/not chase her. To get used to the leash (scared of leash). Help with resource guarding.
Is there any tips anyone can give me or point me in the right direction? I am still reaching out to professionals around my area but just looking at what options I can find, especially since i do not know how long I will be working. Thanks!

What you are looking for is Basic Obedience training. You can google that & learn online. tons of sites, different approaches, different ways, you can choose which way suits you & your dog. The biggest mistakes owners make is that they are not consistent in the training. You need to be on top of the training so you know what to do & how to do it. You could get some dog training books & they usually start out with basic obedience & would take you into Advanced Obedience training. It's all online & it is all in books but the best way to learn this, in my opinion, is to take the dog through a Basic Obedience Class. You learn as the dog learns. I loved the group training. No one knows what to expect, no body knows the right way to do things, dogs don't have a clue either. I made the glasses a fun place to train dogs/puppies.

I would suggest you phone/email dog trainers near you, they will not be offering classes or one to ones ( if they are sensible) however many will explain the very basics to you....... I have cancelled all my one to ones and vet referals however all my present clients have the option of emailing or facetiming me and I am offering simple training and behaviour advice to them and any non clients who are experiencing serious issues I help and I am sure many professional trainers, behaviourist and practitioners will be doing the same thing.
Training and how it is done depends on age of the pup/dog which you fail to say
Recalls can be practiced daily each time you feed and if the pup/dog doesn't come on the first call then the meal is not given...depends on the age of the dog will depend on how long the pup/dog has to wait for its meal...a young pup you try again in 10 mins, an adult dog it is next normal meal time...and NOTHING given inbetween, so no treats...... treats ( food, toys, praise) is ONLY offered/given as a reward, not 'just because' and 99.9% of dogs will work harder to achieve a treat if not given to them, so they can smell it, or lick it but not have it and they will work harder to achieve getting it
If the pup/dog has a collar on, then attach a lead and let it trail all the time, that allows it to get used to the weight of the lead, it is also easy to step on the lead to gain control without too much talking and no chasing, easy to pick it up and walk with it inside/in the garden and drop it again. Easy to stop it getting anywhere near the cat and easy to use it for recall practice.
Drop it: is exchange, so whatever it has, you offer something better, get your timing right and as it drops whatever is in its mouth to take whatever you are offering, you command 'drop'......... training ANY command you need to get the action first before you ever attach the command word to that action...then it is about your consistancy and timing and lots of practice
