Let’s examine the situation from a slightly different angle.  What if you removed “race” from the equation and the question came down to one group of whites asking if they should pay reparations for enslaving another group of whites?  Would anyone still be considering monetary compensation as a way to resolve animosity?  If the answer is “no” then race and skin color shouldn’t change that answer.

Throughout history humans have done some horrible things to each other.  One concept we use to justify hating and killing each other is “race” but there isn’t anything particularly special about it as an excuse to kill or enslave another human being.  Race would be significant as an agent for evil IF people the same race never harmed, killed, or enslaved one another.  Because we know that is not true we should focus on the true agent of evil, human nature.

No, I had an ancestor that was killed by Native Americans and his daughter was kidnapped by them and never seen again. And my great grandfather died in the Civil War fighting against slavery.

All of our ancestors have been treated poorly by someone else. The Black Barbary pirates enslaved Whites, and for a long time White women were the most valuable slaves in the world, as they were sex slaves to the Muslims in Africa. The Irish were enslaved for several hundred years longer than Blacks were enslaved in the Americas and you never hear them talk about reparations.

Can you name me one movie or book that is based on historical fact where White people were enslaved and treated poorly? The historical knowledge of most people today is based on the movies they have seen. They see slaves whipped and they are black. They see a movie about genocide and the people are Jewish.

My ancestors had lots of bad things happen. The Romans, the Saxons, the Norse, the Normans, the French, the Germans...

What about white Americans themselves? I'm from Irish stock. My ancestors were discriminated against by WASPs. I want reparations for my ancestor's pain & suffering. Lol. Everybody needs to get off the injustice gravy-train.

Which Americans? Not every citizen and their ancestors played a part in the systematic oppression and genocide. At the height of slavery, there were just as many black slave owners as there were whites...do they pay too?
