New puppy not drinking water?

I just got a new puppy it’s a pit bull, I think he’s around 5-6 weeks and I’m concerned because he is not drinking water yet he has been with me for two day I haven’t seen him drink water not once. He eats the dog food after I soak it in water and mash it up. Throughout the day he’ll sleep for about 30 minutes. Wake up play for a solid 5 minutes and then be ready to go lay back down and sleep. Also his poop looks healthy it come out long and whole never no liquid.... Is there any reason why he won’t drink the water? Are there some sign I should look for if something is wrong?

Where?  In MY State it is illegal to get a puppy (either new or used) before 8 weeks.

Yes, you should look for a sign that says "Veterinarian."

I believe very strongly that people who cannot find their own way in life should NOT be adopting any animal.  "May someone please send me $20 to my cash app $Jaydub260. I’m very thankful for anybody who does?   It will help me out a lot."

First you beg for money.  Then you adopt a puppy but for whatever reason don't take it to a Vet.

    REHOME THE PUPPY.

He might be getting enough water from the mashup you're doing with his food.  If you're worried, maybe add a bit more water to the food to be sure.

The bigger question is what you're doing with a puppy that young.  He's way too young to be separated from his mom and sibs and in most states, this isn't even legal.  I mention this because whoever you got him from is a crap breeder, and this means you HAVE to get him vet checked.  A simple wellness check isn't that expensive and you can call around to get the best price, but you really need to do this.  It's a little worrisome he sleeps so much, for example.  Puppies usually love to play.  So please get him seen.

When I first got my cat she didn't drink water either. I had a lightbulb moment and remembered in the shelter she had a metal bowl. After buying one she started drinking again.

If he's 5 or 6 weeks old, he shouldn't be separated from his mother yet. 8 weeks is usually the minimum age to take a puppy from its mother care (extenuating circumstances not withstanding).

Anyone selling you a dog at the age is very irresponsible and as an owner, you should know that that's wrong. He hasn't learned the proper behaviour from his mother at that age. It's possible he wasn't totally weaned from nursing at that point and was still getting fluid from nursing.

First, I would verify his age. Second, I would set up an appointment with your bet.

What F-ing idiot and unethical BYB did you get the puppy FROM???  It is NOT LEGAL!!!! for anyone to have sold, given or transferred a puppy of less than 7 weeks of age to you or for YOU to have BOUGHT or obtained said puppy (a better age  is 8 weeks).  These laws apply in EVERY STATE and in most countries... and are for YOUR protection, as well as the well being & HEALTH of the puppy.  But NO, you IGNORED and VOILATED the laws and let an "******" ILLEGALLY DUMP (a TOO YOUNG) puppy on you, in order for him to SAVE MONEY by not having to feed, worm, or vaccinate it as he SHOULD have thru 7-8 weeks.!!!

How do you know your puppy is even fully weaned?  Yes, it has teeth, but CORRECTLY RAISED puppies should be drinking water any time they want, since it should have been OFFERED (at all times) in the puppy whelping area 24/7 and as soon as they started on solid food at between 3-4 weeks.  So continue to add warm water to his food although by 7 weeks, he should be chomping on dry food, with water beside it.

Talk to your vet ASAP about this, as puppy may DEHYDRATE and if this happens it can KILL a pup.
