Is it disrespectful to alter the LGBTQ+ flag?

I was hoping to sew some positive and inspirational sayings on them, and want to check if it’s wrong to alter these flags as long as they are used for a positive purpose.

    The iconic rainbow flag isn't a real, official flag. Do whatever you want with yours.
