I have been given a surgery day for my long standing gallstone pain but to scared to go hospital?

So the only problem is the doctor has said I can have the surgery at the end of may. But he also added that I could be a risk of catching the corona virus at the hospital. I waited so long for this surgery to back down but I’m also very scared. I think everything might get better by then but the risk is high. I have two kids and I’m really scared.

The reality is hospitals are very well equipped to keep you safe and to help you if you do contract coronavirus. If you need the surgery, get it and trust the medical staff to take care of you.

Plus COVID-19 has a relatively low mortality rate, even if you get it the chances of you dying are very low.  You might even have already had it and not known.  Some people have almost no symptoms.

Your operation is almost certainly going to be cancelled, partly because of the risk of contracting covid-19 and also because elective surgeries are being cancelled to allow operating theatres and recovery rooms to be used as temporary intensive care units. Anaesthetists are also working in ICU so they aren't available for non-urgent operations and all medical staff are too busy or in quarantine. My friend has waited years for a joint replacement and it's been cancelled and I've had 2 cancer clinic appointments cancelled, one this month and another in June. Up to half of people with the virus have no symptoms so they won't risk you or other non-urgent cases infecting medical staff and other patients. You won't lose your place on the waiting list and they'll see you when they can. I want to find out for sure if I have cancer or not but I'll just have to wait. I received a phone call to cancel each of my appointments as well as letters in the post.

You don't say where you are located, or how many previous coronavirus hospitalizations have occurred in your city or county. This is normally public information. I too am awaiting an "elective" surgery, and I realize that I COULD catch coronavirus at the hospital, but I probably have a higher chance of catching the virus at Walmart. So I'll take the surgery if they offer it soon.

Unless there are other issues, you should be concerned about any surgery, but not about the virus.  The hospital is working overtime to keep it under wraps. And if you did get it the likelihood of getting a serious case is very very  small for a healthy woman of your age.  Do not be afraid.
