I tried to plug something in to the powerstrip with my router and now my internet won't work.?
I tried plugging something in and the internet killed itself. I thought I had maybe loosened the router power cord on accident but I checked and it was still getting power. Can someone please help me?

what did you plug in? simply plugging something in wont bother the router unless it affected its power, is the new thing high powered if so unplug it. Or is the new thing metal like a microwave and is that interfering with the router.. bit more detail please.

I had a similar experience some years ago when I plugged in a power adapter. Interference from the adapter was sufficient to swamp the broadband signal.
I assume you have tried unplugging the new 'something' from the power strip. If not unplug it and if necessary remove power from the router for 30 seconds and reapply power. This will reboot the router in a clean state.
If that does not work then you have probably dislodged another connector in the router, modem if it is separate or ISP line.

Have you tried unplugging the router then plugging it back in? Also check that the ethernet cables are plugged in still. If rebooting the router does work, try unplugging those and plugging them back in.

Check all your ethernet cables. Often people use cables with the clips busted and they just fall out. Make sure the ethernet ports are lit for the ones with a device.
Look at the modem status lights, just having power doesn't mean connected.

The problem has to be isolated to the router or modem. What model is your router and did you try directly connecting your laptop directly via ethernet with the wireless adapter temporarily disabled? First try disconnecting the power cable on the router and leave it unplugged for a few minutes and reinsert it. If there is still no network connectivity, then venture over to the modem and unplug the power cable there and put it back in. Another troubleshooting step would be to attempt a hard reboot on the router (location of the button depends on your router model) which would involve inserting a paper clip into the router's reset button surrounded by small hole typically located on the back of the router. Consult with your router's handbook to determine exact location of the reset button.

Try unplugging everything related to your Internet like modem and router for about a minute and then plug it back in.
