Can you protect a Leather Chair/Sofa from tearing up by covering it up with a blanket?

The things that used to spoil leather upholstery were the rivets on jeans (as we found on the family car in the 1960s). I don't think you risk the same kind of damage these days. I hate blankets as they always end up in a ball and look like cover-ups in cheap rentals.

You can, but then what is the point in having a leather couch? The biggest problem is making any kind of throw stay on. It is supposed to be hard wearing if it is the real thing. If it is bonded leather then it shouldn't be that expensive to replace or recover if it gives out.
