is Newcastle upon Tyne 'rough?'?

I was looking at moving to Newcastle but some have said it is 'rough' is this true and what areas should i move too/avoid if i go?

    It can be but not all of it is. I think the worst part is just outside Newcastle, there's an estate called Meadowell, definitely stay away from that dump. Newcastle on the whole is a similar place to Liverpool, it has it's good and bad parts.

    Try googling the nightlife, they have some very big men there, I've seen them, scary.

    Part of it could be called rough most of it is not.
