So why didn't Trump build a wall of defense to keep Covid -19 out of our country ?

Because the Chinese virus can fly as high as the great Wall of China -.-

Because he’s racist and Covid isn’t a race of people. 

Don't give him any ideas. He would be stupid enough to believe a wall would keep it out.

Because Mexico would not pay for it.

He did not need a wall. He needed to ban travelers. He is banning immigrants but they are few compared to all the visitors. I recken he did not want to ban travelers because it would have hurt his hotels and resorts. Money above public safety. That is his thinking.

The wall was built to keep people the size of Mexicans out.  If you look close it has vertical slots that will let a house cat through.
