What the difference between kidnappings and abduction ?

No real difference. They are two words for the same thing. Abduction is a slightly more formal term, whereas kidnapping was originally a slang term. Neither word has anything to do with whether or not you ask for ransom, or whether or not the kidnapper is related to the victim.

Both are abduction. Kidnapping has the added nastiness of demanding ransom money.

Nothing really, they are both taking someone against their will. Kidnapped is more someone you don't know or are related to and an abduction is like taking your ex-wife or the kids.
