dying sound card!?
Today I reinstalled Windows 10 on my Lenovo Y520 laptop since I had to replace the hard drive. Upon one of the restarts i did, the sound started coming out only from the internal speaker, while Windows couldn t recognize the external ones. I uninstalled the audio driver for Realtek from device manager, rebooted a couple of times but to no avail. Downloaded a different Realtek driver but still could not get them to work. Tried connecting headphones, but they dont get recognized as well. Windows installed an update too, it might be the reason but I m not sure. What can I do? Is it the sound card that s dying or a drive issue? Internal speakers work, external/headphones don't. THx in advance.

Try this go into device manager locate the sound card uninstalled sound card and delete the driver from the device manager. Now restart your computer when your computer restarts it will download the appropriate driver for your sound card as long as you're connected to the internet.

It sounds like a driver issue. Delete the external sound card's drivers from System Devices, unplug the external sound card, reboot. Check System Devices if the external sound card's drivers are still there. If they are, delete them again then reboot. If no longer there, plug the external sound card and install with the drivers that came with the device. Reboot, test.
IF that didn't work, start all over again but this time, install the newest driver from the device's official website. Now, it that still doesn't work, there should be a forum in the official website discussing the problem already. Your only hope is for the manufacturer to come up with an updated driver version.
