Can you make a leather belt with two layers of thinner leather?
I want to buy leather for a bunch of different projects, so I would like to buy enough to make two regular belts, a few belts that are just for show, a few hats, and little bags for both work and a costume. I'd like to get enough for more misc. future projects as well.
I was wondering if I could just buy the thinner stuff and layer over it, and just sew the edges in a semi-cute design so it looks nice.
I'm getting it from Tandy's if that's important.
I'm actually thinking of getting a 2.8-3.2 thickness, I think that will work for belts, bags, and MAYBE hats.

Sure, but it won't hold up. It'll last as long as a cheap belt lasts, which isn't long. Also, it becomes especially problematic at the buckle where the prong goes through the punch hole. I seriously doubt you can effectively sew the perimeter of a punch hole, and even if you could, the abuse the threads would see from the prong would cause the sewing to give out almost immediately.
