What’s people’s problem with Star Wars episode 9?

Not going to watch a Mary Sue insult the legacy of Anakin or Luke. I also hate JJ Abrams and today's Disney.

I disliked it for the same reasons I disliked the other two.  When you look at the original trilogy, the characters were introduced one by one, in a way that made you care about them and what they were going through.  The plots were also extremely simple. 

Contrast that with Episode 9:  In the middle of the movie, they have to go to this planet, to find a "droidsmith", to access C-3PO's memory, to read some Sith writing on a knife, to find a secret triangle, which shows where the Emperor's hideout is.  Got all that?

I liked it - just as I liked all the Star Wars films. I think that Ep 9 rounded off the saga nicely with a sense of peace for the main character Rey - the type of peace that Luke had before the empire came searching for the droids (in the first film..release order). 

I remember the negative reviews of Ep 9 when it was released, and I'm glad to have ignored these and watched it in the cinema when it first came out.

I liked it too, my only problem was how predictable it was but as a first generation fan it ticked all the boxes and I think it was a decent ending to the saga.

I haven't seen it.  My problem with it is that I saw episodes 7 and 8, and those movies convinced me that the people in charge of this trilogy, Kathleen Kennedy, JJ Abrams, and Rian Johnson HATE Star Wars.  The level of disrespect to the characters and original trilogies is the only consistent theme throughout the two unbelievably disjointed and disorganized movies.  It is not possible that three people could so consistently denigrate the original trilogy by mere accident.  This was intentional.

Every achievement and storyline of the original trilogy was undone.  Han's redemptive story arc was thrown away so he could be a smuggler on the run from gangsters again.  Luke, the only person to see the good in the second most evil man in the galaxy who slaughtered the Jedi was turned into an attempted nephew killer because he THOUGHT he sense a bit a fear in him.  And then when Luke created the next Sith murder-machine, did he clean up his mess?  Nope, he's just like "I'm gonna chill here and drink my green milk!  Have fun dealing with this, sis!"  This is the kid who was lecturing Han about caring and was willing to throw everything away to help the galaxy (and then the Empire forced the choice by slaughter Owen and Beru).

The entire original trilogy in fact has ZERO impact on the state of the galaxy.  All of their victories meant nothing.  The New Republic was wiped out basically offscreen between 7 and 8, and we had an empire ruled by a Sith master and his Skywalker.  Oh sure the names were a little different, and the stormtrooper armor is a little different, but in every way that matters, we were put right back to where we were pre-ANH.  I get that they had to create a new threat, but this new threat doesn't have to be built by hitting the reset button and making the original trilogy meaningless.  Which is what they did.

So I didn't watch 9 (and don't intend to) because 7 and 8 gave me no confidence that the people behind it should receive a single penny of my money.  When Kathleen Kennedy has been fired from Lucasfilm, I might give the next person a chance.

Many many reasons. For one, each movie was supposed to be by a different director and build off each other, well when they fired the guy who was supposed to do episode 9 and brought JJ Abrams back, JJ decided to just implement all his ideas that he would have had if he did episode 8 as well, he himself said that it was too complex and he wished it would have been to movies so it’s absolutely stuffed with plot, the first half with them chasing the knife and Kylo after them, that was supposed to be it’s own big movie basically that was forced into the space of 75 minutes. Second off, JJ undoes a ton of things from the previous movies, most notably Rey’s parents mattering and Snoke just being a clone and Palapitine coming back which I don’t hate, but the way they tell you by saying “Somehow, the emporor returned” is just really awful. And then Finn’s arc is really weird, he wants to tell Rey that he has force powers but he never does, and everyone thought he was gonna be gay for Poe but he ended up meeting a random girl on a random planet who ended up being Lando’s granddaughter somehow. Also if you’re a fan of Rose, who also could have been Finn’s love interest, she only had 75 seconds of screen time in the movie they basically wrote her out of existence and the actress was really sad about that. Also the end with tons of enemy ships and tons of rebellion ships appearing out of nowhere was dumb especially since that fight didn’t matter and all the heroes were just on the surface running, and them revealing that turning to the dark side makes you a different person and that person can be killed was dumb, and they’ve never used the force to revive people before so Kylo doing that was dumb, Finn running at Rey screaming her name while she’s in a to the death force duel was insanely stupid, basically this movie was so bad that I don’t believe they really happened and the books from the 90s are the real story.

SW 7-9 was all crap because it did away with the Expanded Universe and gave nothing in return. The new characters were junk and the mood was desperation and defeat.
