Do you think modern music is overrated and rubbish?

No, I like modern music.

Some is rubbish. Some is excellent. Some is in between.

Aside from the kids caught up in the marketing and image of modern music, nobody is overrating it. Most people rate it just right by saying it sucks. I'll even say the same was true for the pop music I thought was so cool when I was a kid. (I got into jazz and ended up on tour before age 20 so my pop phase was short-lived). The one situation where that might be true is again, most likely the kids who find a lyric inspiring and then become kitschy in assuming the same feeling is universal. To perhaps be ironic albeit not intentionally I'll quote Louie CK as making the point "I'm not going to listen to everything (his 3 year old) says. What's that honey? Yes, sometimes dogs are brown."

When my 10 year old is crying over "rainbows only happen after rain" I'll listen and respect that this is how he is coming to understand and work through the things he needs to right now, valid or otherwise but in no way does that line change my life, and insomuch we can say is overrated in my eyes.

Most of it, for sure. This is what happens when people want free music. We get garbage like Justin Bieber.
