What do the elephants get out of being friends with Tarzan?

Update:

It seems to me that they get a very bad deal. Some get speared when he uses them against natives. And, in Tarzan goes to New York he gets circus elephants to go on a ramage which surely must have resulted in them being shot after the movie ends.

Update 2:

Please help with this important ecological dilemma.

Yeah, elephants haven't fared very well with people in general.  They say you don't hunt elephants, you go to war with them.  That is because they are so smart but even so, much smaller animals with spears and guns make life difficult for them.

American elephants are called "curvy."   Definitely not good for your fridge ecology.
