Defund the Police?  How does that work? (For the law abiding citizens)?

Simple that gun you own is now the police...someone comes into your home uninvited you just blast them and than rid yourself of the remains. No muss no fuss no cops. Have a nice day.    I suggest you aim Center Mass. 

Ask the radical right, they are the ones who expanded this statement beyond it's original meaning.  Another trick to give them a rallying cry to mislead their small minded constituency. 

For intelligent people.......who actually understand the issue,  it means to stop MILITARIZING the Police and giving them TANKS and ASSAULT weapons,  and maybe use that money instead on better TRAINING or more FOOT beat cops,  who ....ya know.........would actually serve and PROTECT the community, instead of,   you know..............killing them, for no reason. 

But Trump supporters will of course, use their one remaining brain cell to claim it means,  just taking away ALL cops,  and having NO cops at all.  A DUHHHHH- 

The idea is to rethink public safety so that you use police for appropriate police calls and create teams of maybe mental health professionals or domestic abuse experts or addiction counselors to go to other types of calls where the police are not needed and are often not effective. So you would take part of the funds of the police dept. and redirect them.

It's actually a move toward "reforming" law enforcement. The 'defund' part only refers to Federal money that's being given for military gear, armored vehicles, fancy electronics & such. Police depts all over the nation pretty much got a blank check after 9/11 to spend as they pleased. The argument is that they've gotten all the latest cop-toys, but never cleaned house or upgraded their archaic practices.

As for REFORMS, it needs to start with identifying those cops who have multiple complaints or excessive force reports. Initiate new training programs and ensure dangerous tactics like choke holds are forbidden. Improve awareness & community outreach plans. Fewer hi-tech cops toys and better organization and communication skills.
