Why do SEMI sweet chocolate chips need to be used for peanut butter bars?

They came out ok but I think SWEET/REGULAR chocolate chips would have been better. They have a bit of bitterness to them? Every recipe says semi-sweet chips though?

You could always vary the recipe and use sweet choc chips. A recipe is just a blueprint, which can be varied by taste or availability of ingredients.

Every package of chocolate chips I have purchased said "semi-sweet" on the package. I have never seen a bag of "regular" chocolate chips.

Because the "regular" chocolate actually have very low cocoa content (some have as low as less than 5%) and they are too sweet. Using them would make whatever you are making sickening sweet.

  • Because most people like semisweet? There is nothing stopping you from using whatever you want now that you know you don't like the semisweet.
