    I have downloaded files in the range of multiple gigabytes via http download; FTP is not inherently superior to that.

    If the internet connection borks, the download is interrupted either way.

    depends on your definition of "comfortable" and your internet speed.

    There is no fundamental size limit with either type of download, unless whoever built a site (of either type) sets one.
