Why is one tire sticking out further than the other?
I noticed one of the rear tires on this car I wanted to buy was sticking out more than the other. What can potentially be the reason for this?

Even wheels that look the same can have different offsets. Ask the seller if you can switch the wheels side to side, if the protrusion follows the wheel someone may have mixed up front and rear wheels. If the protrusion stays in the same place it's time to walk away.

If the left side has move in an equal amount then the rear axle has moved to the right. Sounds like it has been in a major wreck.

IF the 2 rear tires are the same size on the same size wheels.....something is drastically wrong: was banged, wrecked or "drifted" repeatedly. Big dollars to repair - look for another car.
