What is your step by step lining up process before getting down on the shot?

This wasn't something I ever really though about until recently. I always looked at object ball and put my back foot behind the cue ball. My stance really compact and uncomfortable and i tend to overcut balls.

I've read multiple things lately, some say to draw imaginary line from center of the cue ball to the ghost ball and step in on that line, I have a friend who steps on line with the part of the cue ball he wants to hit object ball, another player i know says he don't pay attention to his feet lines up his chin with the edge of the cue ball to side of object ball hes cutting.

It has got me kinda confused, at times I play really good but have constency issues looking a my whole game all over again breaking it down
