Would Trump have beaten Obama in 2012?
I think he would have. Romney last the industrial Midwest because his "47 percent" comments demeaning working-class voters hurt him. Unemployment was still high in 2012, so a Trump who resonated with those voters would have won.

You must be joking. Trump couldn't even really defeat Clinton, who was a lot less popular than Obama (he lost the popular vote). Romney actually got about 1% more of the vote than Trump did. Donald Trump would have crashed and burned epically in 2012.

No. In 2012, the voters still remembered how bad Bush had made things. The 47% comment didn't hurt him as much as the deplorables comment hurt Hillary. Obama was much more popular than Hillary, and even she won the popular vote against Trump.
