Is anybody else finding that they cannot relate to anything that's on TV lately?

I'm talking about UK tv but it might be the same in other countries.

I'm finding watching some of the reruns - like Like of Duty - ok because some of it I didn't see the first time round (out of the country).  However I do thank heavens for the recording facility on my digibox!   That fills a lot of the gaps I really don't want to see!!   It's amazing how much that's on Ch. 5 is worth recording (and being able to skip through the adverts).

I'm not entirely sure that I've ever been looking to "relate" to things on TV.

One of my favorite shows was "Lost", but I never expected to relate to that story.

I'm looking to be entertained -- sometimes with comedy, and sometimes with drama.

But, what I may be finding is more shows having annoying flaws.

I've been watching "Breeders" with Martin Freeman.  The son is 7 and can't seem to understand how to open the front door.  The kids can't sleep but finally get to sleep at 2 am, and at that moment, 2 drunks outside start making a ruckus -- the timing is too perfect.  Freeman's character says if you 2 don't shut up he'd kill them.  In the morning, the neighbor comes to check on them and informs the kids' mom he heard Paul saying he'd kill the 2 of them, and she thinks he was referring to the kids, and when she checks on the kids they're missing.  There are just too many coincidences.  That seems to be the basis of the whole show.

BTW, if you have watched the show, I've been trying to find the exact location of the townhouse used for the exteriors.  The internet claim that it's in Clapham, but I've looked at Google Maps and can't seem to find a street configuration like that.
