Is it culturally appropriate for a white person to wear synthetic dreads?

I'm thinking of getting synthetic dreads however, I have seen some debates about cultural appropriation with regards to white people with dreads. Any advice/answers?

Go ahead. Black people straighten and bleach their hair all the time. Isn't that cultural appropriation? Do they get to act like 5-year olds? "Mommy. She's copying me!!"

Don't.  White people hair doesn't naturally form locks like a person with textured hair.  We get hair mats, it is very very different from the natural dreadlocks that form with textured hair.

Don't wear them.  It is cultural appropriation because your hair does not lock up.  You should not wear dreadlocks, synthetic or naturally matted.

And please call them what they are, they are not dreads, they are dreadlocks.  When referencing dreadlocks on a POC, they are locks.

Since you are concerned about this, this is probably not the right time to do this.
