I dislocated my shoulder, but it went back into place. Should I still go to the doctor?

I dislocated my shoulder 24 hours ago and it went back into place but now I’m having extreme pain in my shoulder, arm, neck, and ribs. I wasn’t sure if this was just soreness or a reason to see a doctor. I really don’t want to go to a doctor right now if not needed, but if there could be problems I will go. Has anyone had experience with this or knows the correct steps to take?

You need to go to the doctor

If you haven’t done it already, YOU NEED TO GO TO THE DOCTOR now.  I dislocated my shoulder about 10 years ago.  It reset itself.  I thought all was well until a few days later and then all hell broke loose.  I “treated” it with my regular pain meds for several years until my regular doctor told me to get it looked at.  I now have a rotator cuff injury that is much worse than the original dislocation.  Luckily, it doesn’t always hurt.  Do your older self a favor and get this taken care of now.

Yes; you should still get checked over by a doctor. There could be other damage. At the least, he could prescribe you a suitable pain-killer and maybe some helpful exercises.

Sounds like a pinched nerve. Ask your primary physician for a referral to orthopedics. Dislocated shoulders tend to recur if not treated seriously.

See an orthopedist.  Yes you need to be followed and the degree of tendon injury discovered. It also will be easier to to do this again.

If you're uncomfortable and concerned, then your best course of action is to call the doctor's office to discuss it. Perhaps the doctor or his nurse will call you back. If not, make an appointment.

it may be a good idea to get a prescription for therapy for the shoulder, to give it some strength......cuz mom had a prescription for hip pain and it did help her.
