Why don’t Barça just let Messi leave?
Regardless of how much money he generates for Barça and la Liga if he stays against his will they’re gonna be paying monster wages for a player that has potentially kicked his last ball for them. A player that does not want to be there. Do they honestly think they’re gonna get the same Messi this season as what they had since he started??
Surely if they make him stay he’ll just refuse to train/play which will lead to them terminating his contract anyway.
In my opinion if they make him stay they’re will be a much darker cloud hanging over the club than there all ready is, which may have a serious impact on the manger and the rest of the squad.
There potentially going to be paying 1 million euros plus, every week for a player that won’t even be sitting in the stands let alone in starting line up.

Even though his contract expires in 2021, apparently he has a clause that allows him to leave for free at the end of each season.

They want an all cash payout for him rather that a bunch of mediocre players.

Messi isn't a God,he is a football player like the millions of us out here. Some are better than others, true but 700m for a 33yo-get real. Time to cut his bilingual cord and let him fend for himself

Why should they? He is their best player and still has a contract.

Money. They've set a price. He's under contract so if a team wants him then pay up. Guess Petro State Trust Fund FC don't want to pay.

i just wonder whether you would make the same verbose points if he was your player, and you knew everybody touted him as one of the greatest players to ever grace a football pitch?...to have a balanced discussion you need to see and understand points from all sides, which isn't easy...
let him leave...to me suggests for nothing, yeah of course they should...(sarcasm)
however reaching an agreeable transfer fee, isn't easy either..

They should let him leave but not for free. I don't think he will win in trying to get out of his contract on a free. What Barca should do though is lower the asking price like Real Madrid did with Ronaldo when they let him leave for 100 million euros. Messi is 33 nobody is gonna spend 700 million, nobody is gonna spend 300 million. Let him go for around 100 million. The true reason Barca are holding on is because they're in desperate need of the money lets be honest they think City will be stupid enough to over pay for a 33 year old. I don't care if he's the greatest of all time no footballer is ever worth paying 700 million for thats crazy money.
Honestly I wouldn't care if Barca never recover from this and that's sad to admit

If he refuses to play, he would be breaking his contract terms so they could probably stop paying him.
