My mail tracking for usps is moving my mail randomly across the country, why? see details?
I am in Indiana.
The package started in Florida.
Then it went to Toledo, OH,
Then it went to Detroit MI.
It's currently at Pittsburgh's PA network Distribution Center.
What is going on?
Is this efficient somehow?
Thanks in advance

Mail moves as it moves and always has. It is normal for 3-5 sorts of an item before destination.
Computers monitor available space on trucks/planes, sort plant volume, staffing levels, and the weather. Moving items to the best route at the moment.
Tomorrow can be a different route, They way it is.
IF you want fast direct then pay for a courier.
You DO NOT NEED TOO comprehend their sorting system. It seems to work moving tens of mullions of letters and packages to their destinations daily.

Because it goes between distribution centers to reach your local post office for delivery. Yhere are not direct connections from one local post office to another.

Trump's appointee is defunding the post office, if you haven't heard. All the mail is being delayed, and sent to different places because most now have no sorting machines.

Is it bound for another country?
We were waiting for a letter-parcel from USA to overseas. It went to Chicago, New York, Chicago again, then Cleveland, and back to Texas; and I THINK returned to sender by now. COVID-19.2.1 has shut down so many planes, I suppose there were no available international flights OR no facility to get it TO a plane for Europe. Sad state the Dotard Adinistration has made of the USPS. Once the best mail system in the world.

My guess--and that's all it is or can be--is the delayed mail piling up unsorted is being trucked to postal facilities that still have sorting capabilities.
