For sure, the American Pit Bull Terrier. If for any reason, so that I can reverse the stigma against them by showing everyone how well trained and obedient mine is.
I cannot begin to tell you the hatred I have of the media for needlessly and unfairly painting this breed so black solely based on the behavior of a few careless owners. But this isn't my soap box, and I'll let that battle simmer for another day.
The truth is, bull terriers are some of the most intelligent, trainable, and loyal dogs out there, with an exceptional protective quality that makes them invaluable if you're the type who needs someone/something to protect your kids, spouse, home day and night.
I will say, if not handled by an owner who is dominant, commanding, and knows how to properly train this breed, they CAN be out of control/aggressive/violent. But so can children, yet we put up with them and their destructive habits more often than not.
Anyway, if you're in the market for a dog that's ready to throw down to protect you and your family and home, this is the one. Given enough intentional training and direction, they are marvelous dogs who are some of the most child friendly I've ever met.

Large short coated female. Breed doesn't matter, a mutt is fine with me but she must be a bit testy in her temperament.

I'm a mutt mama currently, but a breed I would love to have one day would be a Greyhound. One day :)
