Help with physics theory question? ?

If initial speed in the vertical direction is 36m/sec upward and the acceleration due to gravity is 10m/s each second downward, the vertical speed of arrow after 6 seconds is 24 m/sec downward.

I do not understand how the vertical speed can be 24 m/sec after 6 seconds.

    v =  at + v₀ is the basic formula you need to know

    v = -10*6 + 36 where the -10 means accelerating down.

    v = -60 + 36 = -24 m/s

    - means downward, velocity is a vector and needs a direction.

    at the time t = 6 the arrow is going down

    assume upward is positive

    initial velocity u = 36 m/s

    at t=6 , velocity v=-24 m/s
