Are these good plans?

I'm thinking about starting an ant farm, I have questions. Would a plastic jar with some holes on the top be good for the farm, and filled with sand? Could I use a spatula to catch them? Where can I find the queen ant?

Ant farm was my very first pets. You need a queen for the colony to survive, maybe black garden ants, but you have to dig for a queen.

There are lots of how to's online and youtube as well as getting or setting up a formicarium.

They sell starter colonies online, comes in a small vial with a queen and a number of workers. (nucleus colony)
