056 numbers are pretty rare in the UK but are used for calls originating from a VOIP service.

Effectively, that means whoever tried to call you could be based anywhere on Earth.

But it could also be the result of the caller using number spoofing to fool your Caller Line Identification.

In short, it’s most likely origin was from an automated spam caller which uses existing lists of harvested real numbers sold commercially AND software-generated numbers which *might* be real. If anyone (or their answering service) answers the software-generated numbers the spammer records those as being real numbers and can sell those onwards.
