Just bought a brand new memory card. Do I format it before using?

    Many come pre-formatted

    but

    it's always safest to go ahead and use your device to format it

    so that you KNOW that the format is compatible with the device.

    read instructions that came with it.  answer may be device specific

    Yes, you must.

    It is recommended that you format in the device you will be using the memory card with.

    Probably not necessary.  Blind guess from no clues which memory card, where you will use it.

    I always do it, formatting and scan properly.
