Spanish (jardín) yard vs garden?
The internet says the Spanish word for both yard and garden can be "jardín," and another Spanish word for yard is "patio." What makes a Spanish yard a "patio" vs "jardín?" If I said I did something in my jardín, would you think I was talking about my backyard?

The English word "yard" is derived from the same original words as "garden."
In places like Britain, the term "back garden" is synonymous with the American term "backyard."
So depending on where the person you're talking to comes from they may already assume your "jardin" is your "yard" anyway.
As I understand it, the Spanish usage of "patio" implies an outdoor space that's paved, rather than covered with grass or other plants.
