My friend Anna has been in the closet for 3 years, and when she came out to her friends they suddenly hate her for doing so. ?
They ranted on about her keeping secrets from them and she wasn’t ready to come out back then. I fully support her and her friends can’t seem to. And her friends have had her back for years. And they suddenly turn on her. Are they just homophobic or just plain a$$holes

These people are not her friends. She needs to go no contact with them, block them all on her social media. Find new friends who actually support her. Thanks for being there for her..

How very bizarre is the answer given by Anonymous who posts as, well, anonymous. I wonder if others get that strong smell of hypocrisy.

They are both. Now you see, that they were not true friends.

Anna deceived them for years. She misled them into thinking that she was a Bible-believing Christian. She deserved to be ostracised.

I’ve given this same advice many times before on this site and I’ll give it again now. Don’t come out with out a support network of lgbt and straight allies to fall back on and also to be on your own and paying your own bills if your parents are bigots so that you don’t risk being cut off and homeless. What happened to your friend is not uncommon. She’s just got to regroup and make a new support network now. As far as the old friends - she should just put on her poker face and continue on and try and educate them. The whole point of coming out is to teach straight people about us which will in turn slowly lessen anti lgbt sentiment. The more we teach, the more others learn and grow. So hopefully in time the friendships can be repaired and everyone can grow up a little and some hate can be dispelled. The world needs more tolerance and love not more hate. So if she can teach her friends some day - keep the doors open - but until then she should be unapologetic and proud and live the best life possible.
